Hiring a private boat in Palma with a skipper is the most comfortable way to see the bay without sharing the deck with dozens of strangers: you set the pace, the coves and the music. You pay per boat, not per person, so in a group of 6 or 8 the cost per head gets close to a big catamaran.

There are three types of boat and they are nothing alike: the llaüt, the traditional Balearic wooden boat, slow and stable; the sailing boat, which sails on the afternoon wind; and the private catamaran, built for large groups. Below we compare real prices per boat, what each includes and which marina to leave from depending on the cove you want.

Private boat trip prices in Palma: what each type costs

The prices published by operators and platforms fall in a fairly clear range. Always check three things: whether the price is per boat, whether it includes skipper and fuel, and how many people fit.

Boat Departs from Duration Price Places What's included
Llaüt Mar i Cel Can Pastilla 4 h (10:00–14:00 or 16:00–20:00) €690 per boat up to 9 skipper, fuel, insurance, VAT, Mallorcan nibbles, soft drinks, wine and beer
Real Club Náutico llaüt (Civitatis) RCNP, by the San Telmo chapel 5 h €590 per group up to 5 English-speaking skipper, nibbles and 3 drinks per person, snorkelling and paddleboarding
Charter Llaüts Mallorquins (Bona Vida Charter) Bay of Palma 4–5 h from €550 ask water, soft drinks, alcohol, cured meats, cheese, pa amb tomàquet, snorkelling; skipper paid separately
Sailing boats Trui, Gambitero, Servus Club de Mar 4 h, 8 h or 2 h at sunset base price not published 7–12 skipper, fuel, nibbles, snorkelling and paddleboarding
Oasis Blue catamaran Golondrinas quay as booked from €990 25 —
Oasis Lux catamaran Escala Real as booked from €1,290 45 —
Oasis II catamaran Golondrinas quay as booked from €1,890 70 —

On GetYourGuide, private boats around the bay start at €390 (private tour with snorkelling and paddleboarding, 2–4 h) and go up to €605 for an all-inclusive private sailing boat or €790 for an exclusive sailing boat around the bay. Options with water toys, food and drink start at €520–550.

Cost per person: how to split the price

The sum is simple: the price of the boat divided by the number of people going. With the boat full, it works out like this:

Boat Price Places Per person, boat full
Llaüt Mar i Cel (4 h, all included) €690 9 about €77
RCNP llaüt (5 h) €590 5 €118
Oasis Blue catamaran €990 25 about €40
Oasis Lux catamaran €1,290 45 about €29
Oasis II catamaran €1,890 70 €27

For comparison: a shared trip on one of the bay's big catamarans costs between €59 and €93 per adult with lunch (see the guide to catamarans in Palma). In other words, with 8 or 9 people the Mar i Cel llaüt works out at €77–86 a head, within the shared-boat range, and you have the deck to yourselves.

Two things that throw the sums out:

  • Per-person extras. On the Club de Mar sailing boats, paella with an open bar is charged separately: €30 per person for a half day, €40 for a full day and €25 at sunset. On the RCNP llaüt, cocktails are €12 each. Ask whether the "per boat" price already includes food or only the boat.
  • Fuel. On the Bona Vida III motorboat (9 m, 7 places, Club de Mar) the skipper is compulsory and paid separately per day, and fuel is not included: it burns about 12 litres an hour. Over an 8-hour day, that adds up.

Llaüt, sailing boat or catamaran: which to choose

Llaüt: for families and for eating on board

The llaüt is the traditional Balearic wooden boat, once used for fishing and carrying cargo. It is slow, stable and has a shaded deck: perfect with children, grandparents or anyone who gets seasick. Don't expect speed: you go from one nearby cove to the next and stay a while.

The ones leaving from Palma: the Mar i Cel from Can Pastilla (up to 9 people), the Real Club Náutico llaüt sold by Civitatis (up to 5), the Fenicia, a classic llaüt built in 1977 that leaves from Club de Mar (up to 5), and the Bona Vida Charter boats around the bay. There is more detail on each one in our review of Palma's llaüts.

Sailing boat: for real sailing

A private sailing boat makes sense if you want to feel the boat move with the wind, not just get to a cove. The Club de Mar boats (the 14.5 m Trui for 12 people, the 12.5 m Gambitero for 11 and the 11 m Servus for 7) have three fixed slots: half day from 10:00 to 14:00 or 14:30 to 18:30, full day from 10:00 to 18:00 and sunset from 19:00 to 21:00 (a timetable that doesn't follow the sun: in June it sets after 21:00). We cover it in depth in the guide to sailing in Palma.

Private catamaran: for groups of 20 or more

For hen and stag parties, birthdays or companies, a whole catamaran works out cheaper per person than any llaüt: Oasis charters its three boats from €990 (our review of Oasis). If you want music and alcohol, read the rules for party boats first: they cannot pick up in Magaluf, Playa de Palma or S'Arenal.

Which marina it leaves from: Club de Mar, Real Club Náutico, Can Pastilla or Puerto Portals

Every minute spent sailing to the first cove is a minute less swimming. The rule is simple:

  • Want Illetes or the Calvià coast → leave from the west. Club de Mar (Muelle de Pelaires, on the west side of the port) is the closest to Illetes and Portals Vells. Most private boats leave from here: Bona Vida III, the llaüt Fenicia and the Club de Mar sailing boats. It has restaurants open to the public and is currently being expanded (notices at https://www.clubdemar-mallorca.com/).
  • Want Cala Blava or Cap Enderrocat → leave from the east. Can Pastilla is much closer to the Llucmajor coast, inside the Bay of Palma marine reserve. Take EMT bus 31, 32, 35 or A2 to the "Cala Estancia" stop and walk 5 minutes to the Can Pastilla yacht club (Carrer de les Nanses 7). From El Arenal there are also private boats with a skipper from Sa Calma Boats.
  • Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP): on Plaza San Pedro, at the end of the Paseo Marítimo. The meeting point for the Civitatis llaüt is the San Telmo chapel, next to the club entrance. Its route: Cala Major with views of the Marivent palace (30 min), Illetes (1 h of swimming and snorkelling) and the Punta Negra coast.
  • Puerto Portals: a 701-berth marina in Portals Nous, 10 km from Palma. If you are staying in Calvià, ask the operator whether they can pick you up there or at a nearby marina.

What's included: skipper, fuel, food and drink

No two listings say the same thing. Before paying, ask these five questions in writing:

What to ask before booking a private boat

  1. Is the price per boat or per person, and for how many people at most?
  2. Is the skipper included? In some listings the skipper is paid separately, per day.
  3. Is fuel included, and within what area? Some llaüts include fuel "within the set area".
  4. What food and drink is included, and how much do extras cost (cocktails, paella, open bar)?
  5. Until when can I cancel for free, and what happens if the skipper calls it off because of wind?

What the boats we have looked at include:

  • Mar i Cel (Can Pastilla): everything. Skipper, fuel, insurance, VAT, Mallorcan nibbles, soft drinks, wine and beer.
  • RCNP llaüt: English-speaking skipper, nibbles and 3 drinks per person, snorkelling gear and paddleboarding. Pets welcome; not wheelchair-accessible. Free cancellation up to 48 h before, and it can be booked up to 12 h before.
  • Club de Mar sailing boats: fuel, skipper, nibbles, snorkelling and paddleboarding; paella and open bar are extra. Refund if you cancel 24 h or more ahead.
  • Crewed llaüt in Port d'Andratx (4 h): nibbles, soft drinks, beer, a bottle of wine and one of cava, paddleboarding, snorkelling, an underwater scooter and a floating platform.

How many people fit and how long to book

  • 2–5 people: a small llaüt (RCNP, Fenicia) or a GetYourGuide boat for small groups. For a couple, the cost per head is high: consider a shared sunset catamaran if budget comes first.
  • 6–9 people: the sweet spot. The Mar i Cel takes up to 9 and works out at about €77 per person, all included.
  • 7–12 people: the Club de Mar sailing boats.
  • 20 or more: a private catamaran (Oasis Blue 25, Oasis Lux 45, Oasis II 70).

4 hours gives you two swimming stops without rushing; 2 hours is barely enough to see the cathedral from the sea. A full day (8 h) is worth it if you want to go further or have a leisurely lunch on board.

Mornings are better. On the Bay of Palma, the south-westerly sea breeze, the embat, builds after midday and peaks around 14:00, kicking up a short chop. If anyone gets seasick, the 10:00 to 14:00 slot is the calmest. More detail in the best time for a boat trip.

Posidonia and buoys: where you can anchor

Posidonia is the seagrass that forms meadows on the floor of the bay and keeps the water clear. Dropping anchor on it is banned in the Balearics (Decree 25/2018), and the hire company is obliged to tell you about the ban. Fines follow the scale of Spain's national natural heritage law: €100 to €3,000 for minor offences, €3,001 to €200,000 for serious ones and €200,001 to €2,000,000 for very serious ones, depending on the square metres damaged.

A good skipper handles it like this:

  • Cala Blava: there is a regulated buoy field (Cap Blanc–Cala Blava, 24 buoys) where you cannot drop anchor. The boat ties up to a buoy.
  • Sant Elm: another buoy field, with 23.
  • Book on the day at https://reservas.portsib.es/reservas/es/buoy-fields/. Half a day (10:00–14:00 or 14:00–18:00) costs €3.93 for an 8 m boat, €9.08 for a 12 m one and €13.31 for a 15 m one.
  • To see where there is sand and where there is seagrass, use the Govern (Balearic government) map viewer: https://ideib.caib.es/posidonia/.

If you want to drive the boat yourself, take note: since 1 October 2026 nobody can hire a motorboat without a boating licence, not even a 5 m, 15 hp one (https://www.boe.es/eli/es/rd/2025/12/26/1188/dof/spa/html). With a skipper you need nothing. We explain it in boat hire in Palma.

Private boats from Alcúdia and the rest of Mallorca

If you are staying in the north, there is no need to come down to Palma. On GetYourGuide there are private boats on the Bay of Alcúdia from €157.25 (2.5 h, 4.9 from 77 reviews), a private trip to Alcúdia, Pollença and Formentor from €170 and a tour to the Isla del Faro with tapas and wine from €354.90. From El Arenal, the 2-hour private hire starts at €229. More options in the north in boats in Alcúdia and Pollença.

Private boat Palma: frequently asked questions

How much does a private boat cost in Palma de Mallorca?

A llaüt with skipper for half a day (4–5 h) costs between €590 and €690 per boat (some listings start at €550, but without the skipper); on GetYourGuide, private boats around the bay start at €390 and all-inclusive sailing boats at €605. A whole private catamaran starts at €990 (25 people).

How many people fit on a private boat?

A llaüt takes between 5 and 9 people depending on the boat, the Club de Mar sailing boats between 7 and 12, and private catamarans 25 to 70.

Is fuel included?

On llaüts with a skipper it usually is (Mar i Cel and the Real Club Náutico llaüt include it). On motorboats hired with a separate skipper, such as the Bona Vida III at Club de Mar, it isn't: it burns about 12 litres an hour. Always ask.

Where do private boat trips leave from in Palma?

Mainly from Club de Mar (west side of the port, best for Illetes and Calvià), the Real Club Náutico de Palma (San Telmo chapel) and Can Pastilla (best for Cala Blava and Cap Enderrocat).

Do I need a licence for a private boat with a skipper?

No. You only need a licence if you drive the boat yourself: every hire without a skipper now requires one, even for small motorboats.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

It depends on the operator: many include nibbles and drinks and charge for extras such as cocktails or paella. Ask beforehand whether you can bring your own food on board.

What happens if it's windy?

The skipper decides for safety reasons. On GetYourGuide, if the provider cancels because of bad weather you get your money back; you can cancel free of charge up to 24 h before, and the Civitatis llaüt lets you cancel up to 48 h before.

If you are comparing platforms, read our reviews of GetYourGuide and Civitatis before you pay.
