If you're looking for a club náutico (yacht club) in Palma to go out on a boat, the key thing to know is that none of them sells trips: they're members' clubs that rent out moorings, and the llaüts, sailing boats, motorboats and jet skis you book elsewhere board from their pontoons. Here we rate how useful they are for a visitor: very, as long as you know which one you're meeting at and how to get there.

Score

Location
5/5Spread around the whole bay, from Club de Mar to S'Arenal
Access
3/5Boarding isn't always at the club entrance
Parking
3/5Own car park at the Náutico; limited at the Can Pastilla club
Visitor facilities
4/5Restaurants and bars open to the public
Information
3/5Websites are written for members, not for people boarding

For

  • Private boat departures spread around the whole bay
  • Restaurants open to the public at the Náutico and Club de Mar
  • The Real Club Náutico has its own car park on the San Pedro quay
  • You can pick a club according to where you want to swim

Against

  • They don't sell trips: you book with the boat company
  • Confusing access and names that sound alike
  • Limited parking at Can Pastilla
  • In regatta weeks, moorings and parking are very tight

What a yacht club is and how it's useful to you

A yacht club is a members' association with moorings, a sailing school and a restaurant. It isn't a shipping line or an agency: it won't sell you a boat trip. What happens is that charter companies keep their boats moored there, so your booking will say something like "at the entrance to Club de Mar" or "at the San Telmo chapel, next to the Real Club Náutico".

For a visitor, the club is above all a meeting point and, while you're there, a good place to eat by the sea. The pontoons aren't a public promenade: wait at the meeting point for your skipper to come and collect you.

Real Club Náutico de Palma

It's at Plaza San Pedro 1, at the western end of the Paseo Marítimo (the seafront avenue). It was created in 1948 by merging the Real Club de Regatas (1891) and Club España (1919) and has 946 moorings, 589 of them for members.

  • Boats that leave from here: the skippered llaüt sold by Civitatis meets at the San Telmo chapel, next to the club entrance. We compare it with others in our llaüts review.
  • Parking: the club has its own car park on the San Pedro quay.
  • Food: restaurants and bars open to the public.
  • Regattas: it hosts the Copa del Rey (in summer), the Trofeo Princesa Sofía and PalmaVela (in spring). On those days parking is scarce.

Club de Mar

On the Muelle Pelaires, on the west side of the port. It has been running since 1972, has more than 500 moorings and berths yachts of up to 170 m. It's currently being extended: check the notices on its website before you go.

Lots of private charters leave from here: sailing boats for 7 to 12 people, the Bona Vida III motorboat and the classic llaüt Fenicia. It's the most convenient club for heading to Illetes and Portals Vells. Its restaurants are open to the public (Azotea Club de Mar, Saltao de Mar, Cantina Grill and Mar Salada). It doesn't publish parking details: ask the boat company where to leave the car. Website: clubdemar-mallorca.com.

Club Nàutic Cala Gamba

Between Palma and Can Pastilla, on a concession from Ports de les Illes Balears. It's the meeting point for jet-ski excursions around the bay (Mallorca On Jetski, Civitatis). Remember that without a licence you can only ride a jet ski on a guided excursion or on a marked circuit: we explain it in water toys. The club has no easy-to-find website, so ask the excursion company for the exact location.

Can Pastilla: Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and Les Nanses

The Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa is at C/ Virgilio 27, Can Pastilla. It has moorings, a restaurant and a sailing school, with limited parking. Watch the address: Life & Sea meets its passengers at the entrance of the Can Pastilla yacht club at Carrer de les Nanses 7, and that's the address to look for if you're going with them: buses 31, 32, 35 or A2 to the "Cala Estancia" stop and a 5-minute walk. The Mar i Cel llaüt also leaves from Can Pastilla; confirm the exact point when you book. From here you're close to Cala Blava and Cap Enderrocat, inside the bay's marine reserve. We go into detail in departures from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla.

Club Nàutic S'Arenal

On C/ Roses, in S'Arenal, but note: it belongs to the municipality of Llucmajor, not Palma, which matters when you search for the address. It has moorings and a restaurant. The Life & Sea catamarans board next to it, and their boarding office (C/ Balneario, El Arenal) is reached across the sand at the end of the beach: it isn't wheelchair accessible. Life & Sea advises parking around Son Veri Nou. Club phone: 971 440 142. Website: cnarenal.com.

Which boats you can book from the clubs

Almost everything private: llaüts, sailing boats and motorboats with a skipper. If you book through a platform, the listing tells you which club you board at. Some well-rated options:

Alternatives and places nearby

  • Puerto Portals, in Portals Nous, 10 km from Palma: a marina with 701 moorings.
  • Marina Port de Mallorca, on the Paseo Marítimo: 152 moorings.
  • For group trips you don't need a club at all: catamarans leave from the Paseo Marítimo and S'Arenal. Compare options in private boat and in the list of operators.
