Sunbonoo in Mallorca: reviews and what to check before you book

Sunbonoo is an agency based in Palma that sells German-language excursions in Mallorca and the Canaries. It scores well on its shopping trust seal, but the complaints keep coming back to the same things: listings that don't match the actual trip and badly marked meeting points.

Sunbonoo's Mallorca reviews are fine without being brilliant: it works if you speak German and want a single point of contact on the island, but before paying you should check with the boat operator what the trip includes and where you board.

Who is behind sunbonoo

Many people assume sunbonoo is a German agency. It isn't: it is a Spanish limited company, tax number (CIF) B57700635, with an office at Avenida Gabriel Roca 4 on Palma's Paseo Marítimo. What makes it look German is its customer base: it advertises itself as "Das Original" and sells excursions in German.

It plays on the same field as GetYourGuide or Civitatis, selling excursions, but on a small scale and aimed at German-speaking visitors. If a trip is run by another company, ask which one: that is who actually takes you out on the boat. As well as Mallorca, it sells in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, which is why those islands also come up when you search for its name.

What it offers in Mallorca

Sunbonoo sells excursions around the island in German. We can't quote its catalogue, prices or terms here, so the practical rule is this: when you see a boat trip on sunbonoo, note the name of the boat or the boat company and then look it up on the operator's own website.

That lets you check three things that matter a lot at sea:

  • The exact quay. Palma has two boarding areas about 1.5 km apart: the Golondrinas quay opposite the Auditòrium and the Escala Real (the royal landing steps) below the cathedral. We explain it in the guide to boat trips from Palma port.
  • What's included. Some catamarans include soft drinks, sangria and wine; on others you only get water and pay for the rest at the bar.
  • The cancellation deadline. The big Palma catamarans can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before; one or two ask for 48 hours.

Prices: sunbonoo versus booking direct

We can't give you a sunbonoo price list. What we do know is what the bay operators charge on their own websites, and that works as a benchmark for whether an agency's price is reasonable:

Trip in Palma Direct price (adult)
5-hour catamaran with barbecue, Magic Catamarans €59
1 h 30 sunset trip with one drink, Magic Catamarans €20
5 h 30 catamaran on Oasis II €89–93
55-minute bay cruise, Mallorca City Boat €19

If an agency's price is well above the direct fare, ask what it adds (hotel transfer, German-speaking guide) before paying. Each company's fares are in the boat trip comparison.

What travellers say

When we checked, sunbonoo had three fairly different scores depending on where you look:

  • Trusted Shops: 4.67 out of 5 from 1,474 reviews. This is the shopping trust seal the shop itself displays, certified since 2012.
  • Google: 4.2 from 674 reviews.
  • Trustpilot: 4.1 out of 5 from 59 reviews, 20% of them one star.

On Trustpilot three complaints come up again and again: listings that don't match the trip that actually runs, meeting-point links that lead to the wrong place, and weak guides. With so few reviews each complaint carries a lot of weight, but the pattern is typical when the seller isn't the operator: if the information isn't up to date, the traveller finds out on the quay. You can read them yourself on Trustpilot and Trusted Shops.

How to book and cancel

As sunbonoo doesn't publish cancellation terms we can quote, ask for them in writing before paying. Ask too what happens if the boat goes out in rough sea: some agencies' terms treat the trip as delivered even if you have a miserable time.

Before paying for a boat trip on sunbonoo

  1. Ask for the name of the boat company and the boat.
  2. Check the exact quay and boarding time on the operator's website.
  3. Ask which drinks and which equipment (snorkel, paddleboard) are included in the price.
  4. Get the free-cancellation deadline in writing, and what happens if the boat doesn't sail because of wind.
  5. The day before, check the forecast: in the afternoon the embat, the south-westerly sea breeze, whips up waves in the bay.

Alternatives to sunbonoo

  • GetYourGuide: the largest catalogue of boats in Palma, free cancellation up to 24 hours and a pay-later option (you are charged 72 hours before).
  • Civitatis: Spanish agency with 4.5 on Trustpilot and a catamaran round the Bay of Palma for €59.
  • Click-Mallorca: a local agency, but based in Port d'Alcúdia with a catalogue mostly in the north.
  • Direct: Magic Catamarans and Oasis Catamaran sell their bay catamarans on their own websites; the guide to catamaran trips in Palma helps you choose.
