Es Trenc by boat: day trips from Colònia de Sant Jordi or from Palma

The most sensible Es Trenc boat trip leaves from Colònia de Sant Jordi: 3 to 5 hours from €39. From Palma there is a premium full day from 09:00 to 19:00, from €200. No boat lands on the sand: they anchor and you swim from the boat.

An Es Trenc boat trip does not drop you on the beach: the boats anchor offshore over a sandy seabed and you swim from the boat. If what you want is to set foot on Es Trenc, the simplest way is to drive or walk from Colònia de Sant Jordi. If you want to see it from the water, with a snorkelling stop and lunch on board, the boat makes sense.

There are three ways to do it: the short trips from Colònia de Sant Jordi (the village right next door), the premium full day from Palma harbour and Life & Sea's "beach taxi" from Playa de Palma. Below you will find prices, times and who each one suits.

Three ways to reach Es Trenc by boat

Option Leaves from Duration Price What's included
Catamaran or snorkelling boat Colònia de Sant Jordi 3–5 h from €39 direct, from €55 on GetYourGuide Swim stops; barbecue on the 4-hour trip
Premium full day Palma harbour 10 h (09:00–19:00) from €200 Brunch, lunch, aperitif, DJ, 3 stops
Life & Sea beach taxi Can Pastilla / S'Arenal out 10:00, back 18:15–18:30 €40 Transport; drops you in Colònia

My take: if you are staying in the south or have a car, head to Colònia and take the short trip. If you are in Palma, have no car and want an all-inclusive day on a boat, go premium. The beach taxi is for people who want to spend the day on land without driving and do not mind walking about 20 minutes.

Es Trenc boat trip from Colònia de Sant Jordi: prices and times

Colònia de Sant Jordi sits at one end of the natural park, and the short trips to Es Trenc leave from here. Life & Sea has an office on the promenade, next to the Club Nàutic Colònia de Sant Jordi (Carrer de Gabriel Roca 57). Magic Catamarans also runs Es Trenc trips from the Es Coto quay.

Life & Sea's direct prices in Colònia:

  • Day Trip with barbecue: 4 h, €55, children aged 3 to 12 half price, departs 10:00. First snorkelling stop near Cap de ses Salines, barbecue on board (pasta salad, bread and a drink: beer, sangria or water) and a second stop off Es Trenc. There is a toilet and a bar on board. See it on lifeandsea.com.
  • Tour 3H: €39, children half price, departs 15:00, snorkelling gear included. See it on lifeandsea.com.

On GetYourGuide, the most booked is the catamaran cruise to Es Trenc from Colònia: 5 hours, from €59, rated 4.5 out of 5 from more than 2,200 reviews. The alternative is the 4-hour boat tour with snorkelling, from €55 and rated 4.3 out of 5. Life & Sea's boats in Colònia are not wheelchair-adapted; if you need that, ask the operator before booking.

The premium full day from Palma (09:00–19:00)

There is a "Premium excursion Palma – Es Trenc with buffet and DJ on board": a catamaran that leaves Palma harbour at 09:00 and returns at 19:00, from €200 per person. You can book it on GetYourGuide, where it still has very few reviews. The listing does not name the operator or the exact quay and warns that the meeting point may change: check your ticket.

If you would rather book directly with an operator, Attraction Catamarans, which boards at the Muelle Golondrinas on the Paseo Marítimo, sells its own full day to Es Trenc from 09:00 to 19:00 for €200 on its website. That is a separate option: what follows describes the GetYourGuide product.

What the GetYourGuide product includes:

  • A welcome glass of Moët & Chandon, coffee, juice or tea.
  • Brunch, lunch and an afternoon aperitif with cheese and fruit.
  • Towel service, DJ and crew.
  • Three swim stops: Cap Blanc, Es Trenc (the main stop, with lunch) and Cap Blanc again.
  • Return to a spot opposite the Cathedral.

Not included: drinks from the bar, hotel transfer and snorkelling gear, which you can hire on board for €20. There is a VIP package for two with a Balinese daybed, a bottle of Moët Ice Impérial Rosé, priority boarding and cancellation insurance.

The rules: free cancellation up to 24 hours before; if the weather forces a cancellation, you get another date or a full refund. You need to be there 15 minutes early, and latecomers lose their place. Speakers, your own food or drink and pets are not allowed, and the listing itself advises against it for anyone prone to seasickness.

For

  • The whole day sorted without a car, leaving from and returning to central Palma
  • Food and aperitifs included, with a DJ on board
  • Snorkelling at the Cap Blanc cliffs

Against

  • From €200, and the bar is extra
  • Many hours at sea: a bad idea if you get seasick
  • You do not set foot on Es Trenc beach

Beach taxi from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla

Life & Sea sells a "Beach Taxi – Es Trenc" from Playa de Palma for €40. It leaves Can Pastilla at 10:00 and S'Arenal at 10:15. Mind the name: the boat drops you in the harbour at Colònia de Sant Jordi, not on the beach, and the operator itself says Es Trenc is about a 20-minute walk from the harbour.

You get free time from roughly 11:45 to 16:45. The return meeting time is 16:45, arriving in Can Pastilla at 18:15 and S'Arenal at 18:30. The meeting points are the Life & Sea office on S'Arenal beach, next to the Club Nàutic S'Arenal (reached across the sand, not wheelchair-accessible), or the entrance to the Club Nàutic Can Pastilla, Carrer de les Nanses 7. Details on lifeandsea.com.

Life & Sea also runs a day trip to Cabrera from the bay (€90), but that one does not stop at Es Trenc beach: it lands on Cabrera. They are two different trips from different harbours.

What Es Trenc beach is like and the natural park rules

Es Trenc lies inside the Parc Natural Maritimoterrestre es Trenc–Salobrar de Campos, created by Balearic law in 2017. It covers 3,768 hectares, 2,327 of them at sea, in the municipality of Campos, along the coast between sa Ràpita and Colònia de Sant Jordi. It protects Posidonia seagrass meadows, dunes, the wetland and salt pans of the Salobrar de Campos, pine and juniper woodland and endemic plants. It is also a stopover for migrating birds.

The park does not market it as a "Caribbean beach", even though plenty of trips do: it is a protected area with rules that are enforced. Es Trenc also has a long naturist tradition, but no beach in the area is officially designated as nudist.

If you go by boat yourself, the official Posidonia map is at ideib.caib.es/posidonia. Anchoring on the seagrass is banned throughout the Balearics, and fines follow the scale of Spain's national natural heritage law: €100 to €3,000 for minor offences, €3,001 to €200,000 for serious ones and €200,001 to €2,000,000 for very serious ones. If you want to take the helm yourself, remember that since 1 October 2026 boats are no longer rented without a boating licence: see boat rental and private boat with skipper.

The park office is at C/ Manacor 16, Campos (tel. 971 17 61 14, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 15:00). All the official information is on the natural park website.

Free-flow driving time calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap data. In summer and at rush hour allow 20–30 % more, plus time to park near the port.

By bus, no TIB line goes to Es Trenc beach, ses Covetes or sa Ràpita beach. The closest you can get is line 517 to Colònia de Sant Jordi (via Campos) and line 508 to the village of sa Ràpita. In summer some TIB buses fill up at the first stop and leave people behind, so allow plenty of time if you have a boarding time.

How to reach the boarding point in Colònia

  1. Drive to Colònia de Sant Jordi; the Life & Sea office is on the promenade, next to the Club Nàutic (Carrer de Gabriel Roca 57).
  2. Park on the street: Colònia has no pay-and-display zone, but in July and August spaces are hard to find. Life & Sea recommends the Zona Hotelera (hotel area).
  3. Arrive at least 15 minutes early and check on your ticket whether you board in the harbour or at another quay.

If you are heading straight to the beach, you can only park in the park's car parks. The Govern (Balearic government) mobility study notes that the ses Covetes car park has closed, sa Barralina has opened and na Tirapèl has been cut to 400 spaces; sa Ràpita is separate. Driving in and out without parking is free. Na Tirapèl has toilets and an information point, in summer only. The current fee is not published on the park website: bring some cash and a card.

Tips before you book

  • Morning or afternoon. The south-westerly breeze usually picks up after midday; if you get seasick, the 10:00 trip is the better bet. More on this in weather and sea conditions in Mallorca.
  • Cancellation. With Life & Sea it is free up to 24 hours before; within those 24 hours nothing is refunded. If the operator cancels because of bad weather or too few bookings, you get your money back.
  • What to bring. Towel, sun cream, water and a snorkelling mask if you have your own; Life & Sea does not allow your own drinks on board.
  • Children. In Colònia, children aged 3 to 12 pay half price with Life & Sea; for them, the 3-hour trip is easier going than a 10-hour day.
  • If you want more snorkelling than beach, compare with our snorkelling and SUP guide or the Bay of Palma catamarans.
  • To combine it with other coves in the south-east (Caló des Moro, Cala Figuera), see trips from Cala Figuera and Cala d'Or. To choose a beach without a boat, see our beaches guide.

Can you go to Es Trenc by boat from Palma?

Yes. There is a premium full day from Palma harbour, 09:00 to 19:00, from €200 with meals and a DJ, and Life & Sea's beach taxi from Can Pastilla and S'Arenal for €40. Neither lands on the beach: the premium boat anchors offshore, and the beach taxi drops you in Colònia de Sant Jordi, about a 20-minute walk away.

Where does the Es Trenc boat trip leave from?

The short trips leave from Colònia de Sant Jordi. Life & Sea has its office on the promenade next to the Club Nàutic (Carrer de Gabriel Roca 57) and Magic Catamarans runs from the Es Coto quay. The premium day leaves from Palma harbour, with the exact point given on the ticket.

How much does an Es Trenc boat trip cost?

From €39 for the 3-hour 15:00 trip and €55 for the 4-hour trip with barbecue, booked directly with Life & Sea in Colònia. On GetYourGuide, from €55–59. The full day from Palma, from €200.

Do the boats let you get off on Es Trenc beach?

No. It is a natural park and the boats anchor over sand, off the beach; you swim from the boat. If you want to spend the day on the sand, drive or walk from Colònia de Sant Jordi.

Is there a bus to Es Trenc?

There is no direct TIB line to the beach. The 517 goes to Colònia de Sant Jordi and the 508 to sa Ràpita village; from there you walk.

Can you take your dog to Es Trenc?

Dogs are banned from the beach from March to October. From November to February they are allowed, always on a lead.
