If you are looking for a boat trip in Cala Figuera, the real choice is between two very different kinds of boat. In the south-east, between Cala Figuera, Cala d'Or and Portopetro, small skippered RIBs rule: they slip into coves a big catamaran cannot get near. On the east coast, from Porto Cristo to Cala Ratjada, the usual format is a large boat with underwater windows, cheaper and calmer, built for families.

This guide sorts out the two areas, gives you the prices the operators publish and tells you what the booking pages leave out: which tour only runs in summer, when a couple gets left on the quay and which cove you end up at depending on the wind.

Boat trip from Cala Figuera: Caló des Moro and Cala Màrmols

The go-to operator in the harbour of Cala Figuera (Santanyí municipality) is Redstar Tours, with small RIBs and a professional skipper, leaving from Cala Figuera harbour itself. Groups are small, never a hundred-person boat; on the Discovery Tour the maximum is 9 passengers.

Tour Duration Price from What you see
Nature Tour 2 h €42 Cala Santanyí, Es Pontàs, smugglers' caves, Caló des Moro or s'Almunia
Explorer Tour 3 h €56 Route to Cala Màrmols
Discovery Tour 4 h €70 Cala Mondragó, Caló des Moro and Cala Màrmols
Private boat with skipper 4 h €550 Your group, route to suit you
Llaüt Touareg varies €800 Your group

All tours include skipper, fuel, insurance, drinks and snorkelling gear. Food is extra, so bring something if you do the 4-hour one. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

The Nature Tour, the one that runs May to October

This is the short option and the one with the most departure times: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00, with an 18:00 added in July and August, plus extra departures at 09:30 and 11:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. You get about 40 minutes of swimming. High season runs from 16 June to 15 September; low season from 1 May to 15 June and from 16 September to 31 October.

On the day, the skipper decides whether the swim is at Caló des Moro or s'Almunia, depending on the wind. It is not a trick to shorten the route: it is the cove that will be sheltered that morning. If Caló des Moro is the only thing that matters to you, ask when you book and accept that the sea has the final say.

The 4-hour Discovery Tour

This is the tour many people search for as "Caló des Moro, Mondragó and Màrmols in 4 hours", and it exists: Redstar's Discovery, from €70, with a maximum of 9 passengers. It passes S'Amarador, Cala Mondragó, Es Pontàs, Cala Llombards and the smugglers' caves, with three swims: Caló d'en Borgit (about 20 min), Caló des Moro (about 20 min) and Cala Màrmols (about 30 min).

Watch the dates: it only runs from June to September. In May and October only the 2-hour Nature Tour sails. Cala Màrmols is the stop that justifies the price, because you can only reach it by boat or after a long walk.

On GetYourGuide you will find the departure from Cala Figuera to Cala Màrmols and Caló des Moro from €42, rated 4.6 out of 5 in more than 1,200 reviews, and another route to the same two coves from €45, rated 4.8. Cala d'Or boat trips, Portopetro and Cala Mondragó: glass-bottom catamarans

The large glass-bottom catamarans of Starfish Glass Bottom Boats leave from Cala d'Or; according to the resale platforms they carry between 145 and 245 passengers and have slides and a bar. It is a different experience: more people, more noise, fewer untouched coves, but very easy with children.

  • Trip to Portopetro: 3 h, listed at €35 per adult and €25 per child. Pick-ups between 10:15 and 11:05 at Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Gran, Es Fortí or Cala Egos. Includes about 45 min of swimming with snorkelling and an hour free in Portopetro.
  • Long day from Portocolom: €40 per adult, €25 per child, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from Portocolom (09:30) and Cala Marçal (09:45). It passes Cala d'Or, Cala Figuera and Mondragó, with swims at Cala d'Or and Mondragó.

The practical advantage: the boat picks up at several Cala d'Or beaches. Board at the beach closest to your hotel instead of driving to the harbour. These prices are published by resale platforms, with free cancellation up to 24 h before; confirm them when you book.

Guided jet-ski tours are sold in the same area: 1 hour along the south-east coast from Cala d'Or from €175, or to Cala Mondragó from €159. As it is a guided tour you do not need a licence; the rules are in jet skis and water toys.

Portocolom and Cala Varques: kayak, speedboat and sail

Cala Varques is one of the east-coast coves best enjoyed from the water. The three options on sale suit different kinds of traveller:

  • Kayak with sea caves and snorkelling, 3 h, from €75.74, rated 4.9 out of 5 in more than a thousand reviews. For active people.
  • Speedboat from Portocolom to the Cala Varques nature area, 3 h, from €65, 4.9. Faster and effortless.
  • Half-day sailing boat from Portocolom, 4 h, from €90, 4.8. For couples who like a slow pace; more options in sailing trips.

If kayaking appeals, also see the snorkelling and paddleboarding guide, with paddling routes near Palma.

Porto Cristo, Cala Millor and Cala Ratjada: glass-bottom boats for families

On the east coast, boats with underwater viewing are the main product. Around Porto Cristo the advertised routes pass the Cova dels Coloms, a "pirate cave", Cala Romàntica, Cales Varques and Calas de Mallorca. These are the platform prices:

Departure Product From Rating
Porto Cristo Glass-bottom boat, 1.5–5 h €28 3.8 (729)
Cala Millor Glass-bottom boat, 1.5–3 h €28 3.8 (1,133)
Cala Ratjada Glass-bottom boat, 2.5–5.5 h €32 3.7 (795)
East coast Glass-bottom catamaran €29 3.9 (1,442)
Cala Ratjada Boat with drinks and food, 5.5 h €90 4.8 (232)

The ratings say it plainly: the big glass-bottom boats hover around 3.8, while small-boat trips score between 4.6 and 4.9. They are good value if you have young children and want a cheap outing with a swim; if you want quiet coves, pay more for a small boat. In Cala Ratjada, the 5.5-hour route with food and drink scores 4.8 against 3.7 for the glass-bottom boat.

Cala Millor also has guided jet skis to the Sea Lion Cave or Lighthouse Island, from €165 for 1 to 1.5 h. What you really see under the glass is explained in glass-bottom boats.

Coves del Drac: boat and cave on the same day

Porto Cristo is also the gateway to the Coves del Drac. Entry costs €18.50 online and €19.50 at the ticket office (children aged 3 to 12, €11.50 and €12.50), lasts about an hour and includes a concert on Lake Martel and a crossing of the lake by boat or on foot. Online tickets are valid only for the time booked and are not refunded if you arrive late. Times at cuevasdeldrach.com. How to combine it with other visits is in day trips from Palma.

How long it takes from Palma and other bases

This whole coast is a good hour from Palma: Cala Figuera about 50 minutes (57 km) without traffic, Cala d'Or about 58 minutes, Porto Cristo about 57 and Cala Ratjada a little over 70. From Playa de Palma you save a few minutes towards the south-east. If you are staying in Cala Millor, Porto Cristo is 12 minutes away and Cala Ratjada about 19, but Cala Figuera is almost an hour.

By public transport, TIB bus 401 links Cala Millor, Porto Cristo, Manacor and Palma (timetables at tib.org). In season, line 521 connects Cala d'Or with Mondragó, from late April to 31 October. If you are coming from Palma for a single day, think about whether it is worth it: the bay has far more departures, starting with the boats from Palma harbour.

The sea breeze here blows mainly from the east and south-east, straight onto the coast. That is why the choice of cove at Cala Figuera depends so much on the day's wind. If you get seasick, book a morning slot, sit in the middle of the boat and look at the horizon; in a small RIB you feel the movement more than on a big catamaran. Licence-free boat hire in Cala Figuera and Portopetro

You will see adverts for "licence-free" boats in Cala Figuera and Portopetro, Redstar included. Since 1 October 2026 nobody in Spain may hire out a motorboat to someone without a boating qualification, even a 5-metre boat with 15 hp. The legal options are to go with a skipper or to get the navigation licence, about 2 hours of theory and 4 of practice. We explain it in boat hire in Mallorca and, if you would rather not drive, in private boat with skipper.
