Watching the sunset from a boat in Palma is easy: almost every boat leaves from the same quay on the Passeig Marítim and sails past the cathedral. The hard part is choosing, because four different things are sold under the word "sunset": a short trip with a drink, an adults-only party boat with a DJ, a catamaran with a swim and dinner for all ages, and small sailing-boat trips with drinks included. If you're after a club atmosphere, see the guide to boat parties in Mallorca too; if you'd rather spend the whole day on the water, read the one on catamaran trips in Palma.

Which sunset boat trip to choose in Palma

The quick rule: couples who want music and dancing, Barca Samba. With children, Magic or Life & Sea. If you want a swim in a cove and dinner on board, Attraction or Life & Sea; if you want a smaller, adults-only boat with paddleboarding, Oasis. If you want quiet and few people, a sailing boat or a small-group trip.

Boat Times Adult price (direct) Includes Age
Magic Sunset Bahía 19:30–21:00 €20 1 drink (sangria, cava or soft drink), nibbles, water all ages
Barca Samba Sunset 19:00–22:00 from €49.90 homemade pizza and water; DJ 18+ only
Oasis Sunset (Oasis Lux) 4 h, from 17:00 depending on the sun €78–82 welcome cava, finger food, dessert, paddleboarding adults only

Sunset cruise prices: direct and on booking platforms

Direct prices run from €20 to €85 per adult; the difference comes down to length, whether there's a swim, and whether you get proper food or just nibbles.

Details the table leaves out: Oasis charges €78 in spring and autumn and €82 from 1 June to 14 September, and its "Special Sunset Days" on the Oasis II, with tapas and canapés, cost €82. Attraction is currently advertising off-season offers below its standard price on its website.

On GetYourGuide the range is similar: the sunset tour with music and a dance floor is from €44.91, the premium catamaran to Cala Vella with food and a swim from €76.50 and the 2-hour catamaran trip with appetisers and canapés from €99. The advantage of booking there: you can pay later (you're charged 72 h before) and cancel free up to 24 h before; we explain it in our GetYourGuide review.

Barca Samba at sunset: price, times and what's included

The Barca Samba is Palma's classic party boat, on the water "since 1995". Its sunset trip leaves at 19:00 and returns at 22:00, costs from €49.90 and is for over-18s only. It has a live DJ, homemade pizza and water; drinks are paid for separately in cash or by card.

It's 23 m long, with two decks joined by steep stairs, a 25 m² dance floor and four toilets. It takes up to 112 passengers: it's a lively, packed boat, not a romantic cruise.

  • Swimming: the 45–60 minute swim stop only happens from June to August. In spring and autumn it's a cruise with no swim.
  • Boarding: opens 20 minutes before and closes 5 minutes before departure. If you miss it, you lose your ticket and your place goes to the waiting list.
  • Rules: no outside food or drink, no fancy dress, no pets and no suitcases. Not wheelchair accessible.
  • Cancellation: free up to 24 h before; if the weather forces a cancellation, the captain alone decides.

The operator warns that, at the last minute, some resale websites show places that are no longer available; the price is the same. For last-minute bookings, book at barcasamba.com.

Premium sunset catamarans with canapés, dinner and a swim

If you want the sunset without the disco, choose an afternoon catamaran: it leaves around 17:00, crosses the bay towards the coves of Llucmajor, inside the marine reserve, and comes back to port as the sun goes down.

Oasis: adults only, on a smaller boat

Oasis Catamaran runs its sunset trip on the Oasis Lux, its original catamaran of about 15 m, with a departure time that varies with sunset (from 17:00), one stop, welcome cava, finger food, dessert and paddleboarding included. It's adults only, and the operator doesn't accept fancy dress or stag and hen parties without prior notice. One detail catches many people out: the Oasis Lux boards at the Escala Real (the royal landing steps), next to the Moll Vell (old pier), not at the Golondrinas like its other boats.

Attraction: buffet dinner and DJ, with children

Attraction Catamarans sails from 17:00 to 21:00, anchors at Cala Blava for a swim, serves a buffet dinner and puts on a DJ for the return trip. Families are welcome, but children aged 6 to 12 pay the same as adults (€85). Its catamarans are big: the one used for its day trip measures 24 × 12 m and carries 145 passengers. To cancel free of charge you need to give 48 h notice, not 24.

Life & Sea: sunset from S'Arenal

If you're staying in Playa de Palma or El Arenal, Life & Sea leaves from its office next to the Club Nàutic S'Arenal: 3 hours, €75, with a barbecue, one drink and snorkelling gear. It leaves at 17:00 or 18:30 and children aged 3 to 12 pay half. Boarding is from the beach and isn't adapted for wheelchairs. More options in the guide to boat trips from El Arenal.

Small groups and sailing boats

No Palma operator publishes a shared sunset trip for 10–12 people with canapés; the booking platforms do list them. There's a sunset cruise for just 12 people with all drinks included from €49 and a 4-hour sailing trip with snacks and an open bar from €95, which also has a midday departure. If you want the boat to yourselves, the private sailing boats at Club de Mar offer a 2-hour sunset trip, 19:00 to 21:00, with a skipper, paddleboarding and snorkelling: see sailing in Palma and private boat hire.

Spanish mainland time in mid-month, calculated for Palma. At sea, with a clear horizon, you see the sun a couple of minutes longer.

This matters. Barca Samba (19:00–22:00) and Oasis, which times its departure to the sun, cover the summer sunset. But Magic Sunset publishes a 19:30–21:00 timetable and Attraction 17:00–21:00: in June and much of July, with the sun setting around 21:10 or later, you'd be back in port before it goes down. If you're going in high summer, confirm the departure time for your date.

In September the sea is still around 25 °C, but it's the month with the most stormy days; in October you can still swim (22 °C) and it's the wettest month. The full month-by-month detail is in the best time for a boat trip.

Where sunset cruises leave from and how to get there

Almost everything leaves from the Muelle de las Golondrinas, on the Passeig Marítim opposite the Auditòrium: Magic, Barca Samba, Attraction and the Oasis II. The Oasis Lux leaves from the Escala Real, below the cathedral, about 1.5 km away. Life & Sea leaves from S'Arenal, at the other end of the bay.

How to get to the Muelle de las Golondrinas

  1. By bus: EMT line 1 stops on the Passeig Marítim, opposite the Auditòrium; it comes from Plaça d'Espanya and the cruise port. A cash ticket costs €2; paying by contactless bank card is cheaper.
  2. By car: parking on the Passeig Marítim is difficult and Barca Samba warns of roadworks in the area. Magic recommends the Marquès de la Sènia pay car park.
  3. Leave plenty of time: the Barca Samba closes boarding 5 minutes before departure and Attraction asks you to be there 10 minutes early.

From Magaluf or Palmanova, the TIB 104 bus takes you into Palma, but the last bus back leaves Palma at 22:30: if your boat gets back at 22:00, it's tight. Everything is in boat trips from the port of Palma.

Seats on board, seasickness and what to bring

On a boat carrying up to 112 people like the Barca Samba, the seats on the top deck go quickly: boarding among the first pays off. Boarding opens 20 minutes before departure.

If you get seasick, sit in the middle of the boat on the lower deck, look at the horizon and avoid alcohol and heavy meals. The afternoon breeze on the bay, the embat (afternoon sea breeze), blows from the south-west, peaks at around 14:00 and turns into an offshore land breeze at night: 17:00 departures can still meet a bit of chop.

Bring

  • A light jacket: it gets cooler on the water once the sun goes down
  • Swimwear and a towel if your boat stops at a cove
  • A card (no Amex on Magic) or cash for the bar

Avoid

  • Food or drink from home: not allowed
  • Fancy dress and stag or hen parties without notice on Barca Samba and Oasis
  • Counting on a swim on Barca Samba outside June to August

Adults only or with children: age rules

Adults only: the Barca Samba sunset and night trips, and Oasis's sunset trips, where the person booking must also be over 18. With children: Magic (free up to 6, half price from 7 to 14), Life & Sea (half price from 3 to 12) and Attraction (free up to 5, adult price from 6 to 12). For families, Magic is the cheapest and the shortest.

Dinner after the boat

With a buffet dinner (Attraction), a barbecue (Life & Sea) or pizza (Barca Samba) you've already eaten. If your sunset trip is just a drink, like Magic, you have nearby:

  • Club de Mar, at the western end of the Passeig Marítim, has restaurants open to the public: Azotea Club de Mar, Saltao de Mar, Cantina Grill and Mar Salada.
  • Real Club Náutico de Palma, on Plaza San Pedro at the end of the Passeig Marítim, has bars and a restaurant.
  • To carry on the night with a show, the Alma flamenco tablao is at Avenida de Portugal 5; we cover it in flamenco in Palma.
