Cruises from Palma de Mallorca: who embarks here and how to get to the terminal

Cruises from Palma are mostly 7-night round trips with Marella, TUI Cruises (Mein Schiff) and AIDA. You book them with the cruise line, not here. If what you are after is a boat trip of a few hours around the bay, we cover that at the end.

Cruises from Palma de Mallorca are almost always week-long trips around the western Mediterranean that start and finish at the same quay. They are sold as a package (often with flights) on the cruise line's website or through a travel agent. We don't sell them on palma.boats: this page tells you which cruise lines embark passengers in Palma, which routes they sail and how to get to the terminal with your luggage.

And if you were actually looking for a cruise of a few hours around the bay, with a swim and lunch, skip straight to the last section. That is what most people find when they search for "Palma cruise".

Which cruise lines sail from Palma

Palma is a home port, not just a port of call, for several brands. A common mix-up: "TUI" is not a single cruise line.

  • Marella Cruises is TUI's UK cruise brand. Marella Discovery 2 is based in Palma in summer on 7-night round trips, and Marella Explorer has called at Palma every Saturday in high summer.
  • TUI Cruises is a separate company, running the Mein Schiff fleet for the German market. Mein Schiff Flow sails 7-night cruises in summer starting and ending in Palma.
  • AIDA, also for German passengers, has AIDAcosma in Palma on summer Saturdays, and AIDAstella calls regularly too.

MSC and Costa also turn up every week: MSC Grandiosa on Fridays and Costa Pacifica on Tuesdays. A ship berthing in Palma does not mean you can embark here. Some itineraries allow it and others are only a one-day call. Check the cruise details before booking: Palma must be listed as an embarkation port, not just a port of call.

In October there are still dozens of ship departures from around fifteen cruise lines (calls included), so the season does not end in September.

Typical 7-night itineraries from Palma

Routes change every season, but the format repeats: one week, round trip, with calls in Italy, France, Corsica or Sardinia, and sometimes mainland Spain or North Africa. These are real examples from the summer season:

Cruise line and ship Route Ports of call
Marella Discovery 2 "Jewels of the Mediterranean" Olbia, La Spezia, Villefranche, Toulon, Palamós
Marella Discovery 2 "Cosmopolitan Charms" Palamós, Propriano, Civitavecchia (Rome), Salerno, Palermo
Mein Schiff Flow Round trip from Palma Civitavecchia, Ajaccio, Marseille
Mein Schiff Flow Round trip from Palma Tangier, Málaga, Barcelona

For dates and prices, check each cruise line's website. We don't publish cruise fares because they change daily and depend on the cabin.

How to get to Palma cruise terminal

First find out your berth. Cruise ships berth at the Estacions Marítimes 1-4 (the Poniente quay, shared with the ferries) or at the Dic de l'Oest (west breakwater), next to Castell de Sant Carles, where the biggest ships usually berth. If it is not clear, ask your cruise line before you travel. More on the terminals in our Palma cruise port guide.

From the airport or your hotel to the terminal

  1. From the airport, EMT line A1 (€5) takes you to the centre. At Plaça d'Espanya change to line 1: paying cash you buy both tickets; with a contactless card you get a free transfer.
  2. Line 1 (Sindicat – Dic de l'Oest) stops at "Portopí Estacions Marítimes 1, 2, 3 i 4" and terminates at "Dic de l'Oest – Museu Sant Carles". It currently costs €2 in cash, or less with a contactless card.
  3. If you have a lot of luggage, take a taxi: tariff 1 is €2.50 flag fall plus €1.20/km, plus a €4.65 port or airport supplement. They cannot charge you for suitcases and must accept cards.
  4. Arrive in good time. On changeover days the ship comes in around 04:00 and leaves in the evening, and traffic around Portopí is concentrated in those hours.

The bus fare may change: the city council has given initial approval to raising the cash fare to €3. Check the current fare on the EMT website.

Cruise ships in Palma today: how to see which ships are in

If you want to know which ships are berthed today, or see your ship before boarding, the Ports de Balears "Ships in port" page shows each ship at its berth in the Posidonia viewer. There is also the Posidonia SmartPort app. Summer Saturdays are the big embarkation day, with AIDAcosma and Marella Explorer in port together. Who runs the port and what facilities it has is in our Port of Palma guide.

Palma limits cruise ships through an agreement between the Govern (Balearic government), the city council and the cruise lines: a maximum of three large ships at once, only one with more than 5,000 berths, and 8,500 berths a day as a weekly average. We explain it in detail in the cruise port guide.

A day in Palma before or after your cruise

If you arrive a day early or stay on afterwards, make the most of it. Line 1 links the terminal with Plaça d'Espanya, where the Sóller train leaves from (€30 return, first train at 10:10). The cathedral is right in the old town: the official ticket costs €10 (€25 with the terraces), but it does not open for sightseeing on Sundays. You will find more ideas in things to do in Palma.

Looking for a boat trip in Palma?

Plenty of people searching for "cruise in Palma" don't want a week on board, just a few hours at sea. That we do cover, and it leaves from central Palma, opposite the Auditòrium or below the cathedral:

  • Day catamaran, about 5 hours. The big catamarans leave from the Golondrinas quay, opposite the Auditòrium, for the coves on the Llucmajor coast (Cova Verda, Cap Rocat, Cala Vella, Cala Blava), with a swim and a barbecue. The sea is calmer in the morning, because the breeze picks up after midday. Everything is in the catamaran guide.
  • Sunset boat trip. Evening departures with the light falling on the cathedral. Times and prices in sunset cruises in Palma.
  • An hour around the bay. Mallorca City Boat does a 55-minute loop for €19 from the Escala Real, Monday to Saturday. There is no swim stop.
  • Party boat. If you were after a booze cruise, read the party boat guide first: boats with alcohol and music cannot pick up passengers in Magaluf, Playa de Palma or S'Arenal.

If you can't decide, the boat trip comparison gives prices, duration and who each one suits.
