Palma Aquarium is the morning or afternoon plan that rescues a windy day, a scorching day or a day when the children have had enough of the beach. It is in Playa de Palma, east of the city, in the same area as Can Pastilla and S'Arenal, where many of the bay's boat trips start, and its star attraction is the Big Blue, one of the deepest and largest shark tanks in Europe.
Below are the official prices, how to save on your ticket, how to get there by bus or car, the combos with transfers or a catamaran, and what nobody tells you before you go with children.
Palma Aquarium ticket prices
The aquarium publishes a single price list, with a visitor rate and a rate for Balearic residents:
| Ticket | Visitor | Balearic resident |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | €30.50 | €20.00 |
| Child (3 to 12) | €19.50 | €13.00 |
| Over-65 | €27.00 | €17.00 |
| Under 3 | free | free |
A family of two adults and two children aged 3 to 12 pays €100 at the visitor rate. Residents pay about a third less (residents only), so they should bring proof of residence.
When you buy, you choose an entry time and the ticket is valid for entry within the following 30 minutes, so don't book a slot you can't make. The official shop is at tickets.palmaaquarium.com and also offers a ticket with transport. The aquarium does not publish a different price for the ticket office.
Paid extras: a ticket with the Aquadome 3D cinema (from €34), diving with sharks, sleeping next to the sharks, the Shark Vision boat, the behind-the-scenes tour, the Undersea Explorer virtual-reality experience and snorkelling with rays. If you plan to come back several times, there is an annual pass (Ocean Pass).
How to pay less: go in the afternoon
The aquarium itself currently advertises a discount for slots from 14:00: 15% off, from €26, valid for visits until 31 October. Afternoons are usually quieter too. The catch: last entry is at 17:00, so don't cut it fine. The conditions are on the promotion page.
Palma Aquarium opening times
It is open every day of the year, 09:30–18:30. Last entry is at 17:00, an hour and a half before closing, and you'll need that time: the visit takes at least 2 hours, longer if you sit in front of the Big Blue or eat inside.
Being open on Sundays makes it a good plan for the day of the week when the cathedral doesn't allow sightseeing and many of Palma's museums close early. If you're planning your week, our guide to things to do in Palma has the closing days for every monument.

- Official website: the one that publishes the resident rate and the afternoon discount.
- GetYourGuide: the same ticket, with the optional 3D cinema and the option to book without paying straight away (your card is charged 72 hours before). Check the listing to see whether free cancellation is available for your date; the platform's usual policy is up to 24 hours before. More in our GetYourGuide review.
- Tiqets: skip-the-line ticket with the optional Aquadome 3D cinema, same starting price. We look at it in our Tiqets review.
Our advice: if you are a resident or going in the afternoon, buy on the official website. If your dates are uncertain or you want everything in the same app as your boat trips, the platform costs you nothing extra.
Big Blue: the shark tank
The Big Blue is why most people come. The aquarium describes it as one of the deepest and largest shark tanks in Europe, holding more than 3.5 million litres of seawater. About ten sharks of several species (sand tiger, sandbar and nurse) swim in it alongside rays, groupers, amberjacks and other fish. Beyond the Big Blue, the aquarium has around a thousand animals of other species.
Be careful with what you read elsewhere: it is not "the largest tank in Europe", but one of the largest and deepest.
To see it differently there are paid activities: diving with the sharks, spending the night next to the tank or looking out from the Shark Vision boat. Places, age limits and prices are on the Big Blue page and in the official shop.

How to get there by bus from central Palma
- Go to Plaça de la Reina, at the foot of the cathedral.
- Take the EMT 35: it runs from Plaça de la Reina to the aquarium via Portixol, El Molinar, Ciutat Jardí and Coll d'en Rabassa.
- Stay on to the end: the line terminates at the aquarium. It is a frequent route, but check the timetable on the EMT website.
- Pay by contactless card: a cash single currently costs €2 with no transfer; with a bank card there are discounts from 40% (the city council has given initial approval to raising the single fare to €3).
Lines EMT 23 (express along the motorway from Plaça d'Espanya) and EMT 25 (along the seafront to S'Arenal) also run through Playa de Palma, but it isn't clear how far from the aquarium they stop: the 35 is the safe choice. The line 15 mentioned in some older guides no longer runs this route.
By car: there is a free outdoor car park and a paid underground one with €3 off for visitors.

Aquarium + catamaran: Life & Sea, which sails from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla, sells a catamaran and Palma Aquarium combo on its website for €75. It's a way to do the boat and the aquarium on the same day without crossing the city. The trips from this area are in boat trips from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla, and the company in our Life & Sea review.
Half a day on the beach, half at the aquarium
In the morning, a swim at Playa de Palma or Cala Estància, one of Palma's Blue Flag beaches; from 14:00, the aquarium at the discounted rate. Or the other way round: the aquarium at 09:30 and in the afternoon a catamaran trip or a glass-bottom boat. Bear in mind that the embat, the south-westerly sea breeze that makes the bay choppy, picks up in the afternoon: morning boats have a smoother ride. More swimming ideas in our guide to Palma's beaches.

Palma Aquarium with children: the practical bits
It is probably the best plan in Palma for young children, and under-3s go free.
- Food: there are four places to eat (Mediterra, Jellyfish Rest Bar, Cantina and Oasis), so there's no need to leave.
- Lockers: there are some, but they only take card payments.
- Pace: 2 hours is the minimum; with children, allow more. If you want them to sit in front of the Big Blue without rushing, go early.
- Entry time: the ticket is valid for 30 minutes from the slot you choose. With little ones and a bus ride, book a slot with some margin.
- For the older ones: diving, snorkelling with rays or a night with the sharks each have their own conditions; check them before promising anything.
Palma Aquarium reviews
On the booking platforms the rating is high and steady: 4.5 out of 5 from more than 3,700 reviews on GetYourGuide for the standard ticket, and 4.4 from nearly 1,500 on Tiqets. The tickets with transfers hold the same 4.5.
Our verdict: it's worth it if you're interested in sharks or have children with you, and it's a solid plan B when the wind cancels a boat trip. If you only have one day in Palma and you love the sea, a boat trip round the bay shows you more of Mallorca for a similar price; we compare the options in our boat trip guide. To see dolphins, do it on a responsible trip, not by looking to swim with them: see dolphin watching.
