The Magic Catamarans reviews from Mallorca are well founded: its 5-hour trip round the Bay of Palma gives you the most per euro, with food and drink included and young children free. If you want a quiet boat with few people, look at its Plus version or at the competition.
Verdict
4.3/ 5
The best value of the big catamarans in Palma: barbecue, soft drinks, sangria and wine included for €59, children up to 6 free and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. It loses points for being vague about which boat sails each day, for card-only payment on board (no American Express) and for a legal notice that doesn't identify the operating company.

Who Magic Catamarans are
Magic Catamarans is a catamaran excursion company with an office at Avenida Gabriel Roca 8 on Palma's Paseo Marítimo and tourism intermediary registration MT/156. It also runs trips to Es Trenc from Colònia de Sant Jordi and on the Costa Brava (Roses and Palamós).
Watch out for a common mix-up: Oasis Catamaran is not a Magic boat, it is a different company (Oasis review).
The fleet listed on its website runs from the Outremer 5X (12 seats) to the Taiti 75 (92 to 104), by way of the Taiti 60 (71), the Ocean Voyager 73 (85) and the Freebird 50, a 16-metre, 40-seat catamaran with two electric motors, advertised as 100% electric. All have two toilets and a freshwater shower. What the website doesn't say is which hull runs each trip in Palma: if you care about going on the electric one or on a small boat, ask when you book.
What it offers in the Bay of Palma
All the day trips cross the bay to the south-east, towards the Llucmajor coast, and don't go to Portals Vells. The stops are Cova Verda, Cap Rocat and Cala Vella, inside the bay's marine reserve.
| Trip | Times | Stops | Includes | Adult | Ages 7–14 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bay of Palma | 10:00–15:00 or 15:30–20:30 | Cova Verda and Cala Vella | Barbecue, salads, dessert; soft drinks, juice, coffee and water; sangria and wine with the meal | €59 | €29.50 |
| Bay of Palma Plus (max. 35 people) | 10:00–15:00 or 15:30–20:30 | Cap Rocat and Cala Vella | Ibérico ham and cheese appetiser, one drink, barbecue with sangria and wine, SUP board and kayak | €74 | €37 |
| Palma Sea Tapas | 15:30–19:00 | Cala Vella (1 h 30) | Tapas, soft drinks and water; anything else from the bar | €39 | €19.50 |
| Sunset Bay | 19:30–21:00 | No swim | One sangria, a glass of cava or a soft drink; olives, crisps and nuts | €20 | €10 |
Children aged 0 to 6 go free; on the sunset trip, no more free children than adults per booking.
Standard or Plus
The standard trip is the one we recommend for families: five hours, a first swim at Cova Verda, a barbecue cooked on board at Cala Vella (skewers and chicken breast, sausages, green salad and Russian salad) and the way back past the cathedral. There is a vegetarian menu if you ask 24 hours ahead, life jackets and a giant floating mat.
The Plus costs €15 more and what it buys is space and extras: a maximum of 35 passengers, a swim and appetiser at Cap Rocat, and stand-up paddleboards and a kayak included. If you are a couple or want to paddle, it is worth it. If you are with children and just want to eat and swim, the standard trip does the job comfortably.

What travellers say
The GetYourGuide listing that matches Magic's 5-hour catamaran in format and price is one of the most reviewed trips in Palma, averaging 4.6. In Magic's favour is what the price covers: with drinks included, there are no surprises at the bar. Before you go, it's worth knowing this:
- The captain can change the route. Magic says so on its website: if the sea rules out one cove, the boat goes to another.
- The afternoon is choppier. The embat, the south-westerly sea breeze, picks up after midday and roughens the sea from around 14:00. If you get seasick, choose the 10:00 departure.
- You won't be alone. Oasis and Attraction also go to Cala Vella; in high summer you share the cove with other catamarans.

How to book, cancel and get to the quay
Magic sells on its website through the "Reservas Excursiones Marenostrum" booking engine (reservas.mnys.es); you can cancel free up to 24 hours before. If you have questions, there's a Spanish freephone number, 900 102 894, and WhatsApp, +34 675 292 510. The coach pick-up covers hotels from El Dorado to Palma and from Camp de Mar to Palma; its price isn't on the website, so ask.
How to get to Magic's boarding point
- Go to the Golondrinas quay on the Paseo Marítimo, opposite Palma's Auditòrium. It is not the Escala Real by the cathedral.
- If you are driving, Magic recommends the Marquès de la Sènia pay car park: parking by the quay is difficult.
- Bring a card (not American Express) to pay for extras on board, and your own mask if you don't want to leave a deposit.
All the boarding information is on Magic's boarding page and in our guide to boat trips from Palma port.

- Life & Sea: if you are staying in Playa de Palma or S'Arenal, it leaves from there, with 2-hour catamarans (€40) or 4 hours with barbecue (€65).
