The Sóller train links Palma with Sóller across the Serra de Tramuntana: an hour's journey, 13 tunnels (the longest almost 3 km) and a high point of about 200 metres. From Sóller station, the 1913 tram runs down to Port de Sóller in about 30 minutes, and from there the boats leave for Sa Calobra. Before you turn up at the station it pays to understand how tickets are sold, because they are not all bought the same way.

Sóller train prices: tickets and fares

These are the official fares for the train and the tram:

Route Single Return
Palma – Sóller €23 €30
Palma – Bunyola €11 €19
Bunyola – Sóller €11 €19
Tram Sóller – Port de Sóller €10 €10 per journey
Train + tram Palma – Port de Sóller – Palma — €40 (€32 online)

Do the maths: a return train (€30) plus two trams (€20) comes to €50. The combined ticket costs €40 at the ticket office and €32 with the online offer, available on certain departures. If you are going down to the port, the online combined ticket is by far the cheapest option.

The official website does not publish a child or resident fare for the train: ask at the ticket office if you are travelling with children. The tram is paid on board.

Terms worth knowing

  • Get to the station 30 minutes before departure.
  • Once issued, tickets are non-refundable. You can change the date or time until 09:00 on the day of travel.
  • With the combined ticket, the train runs at a fixed time and you can take the tram on any departure.
  • No animals (except guide dogs or pets in carriers), bicycles or e-scooters.

How to read it for a day trip:

  • Out at 10:10 and back at 17:15 or 18:30: the classic plan, with time for Sóller, the port and lunch. The 10:10 is also the busiest.
  • Out at 13:30: quieter, but it leaves you less than five hours before the last train.
  • The last train from Sóller to Palma leaves at 18:30. If it is full or you miss it, TIB bus 204 goes back to Palma through the Ma-11 tunnel, faster and cheaper.

If you are driving, there is a practical alternative: the train stops at Son Sardina, which has free parking. You avoid hunting for a space in the centre, and the train + tram + boat packages let you start there.

How to get to Sóller without the train

  • TIB bus 204: Palma – Ma-11 tunnel – Sóller – Port de Sóller. The quick, cheap option.
  • TIB bus 203: leaves from the Estació Intermodal and goes via Valldemossa and Deià to Sóller and the port. Longer, but more scenic.

A good combination: out by train for the experience and back on the 204. Timetables at tib.org.

The Sóller tram to the port

The tram, opened in 1913, has its first stop right outside the train station in Sóller, so the change is immediate. It takes about 30 minutes to Port de Sóller and, in good weather, the open "jardinera" carriages run. The last stop is next to the old port station, now the Mar y Sol restaurant.

  • Sóller → Port: 08:00 to 19:30 (roughly every half hour between 11:00 and 19:30), plus a departure at 20:35.
  • Port → Sóller: 08:30 to 20:00, plus one at 21:05.
  • Price: €10 per journey, on board, or included in the combined ticket.

At the port is the Muelle Comercial (commercial quay), where the boats leave for Sa Calobra and Cala Tuent. If you arrive on the 10:10 train (Sóller 11:10), the tram gets you to the port in time for the 13:00 boat.

Sóller train and the Sa Calobra boat: direct or on GetYourGuide

The full excursion, which the train company calls "Vuelta a la isla" (round the island), links the train, the tram and the Barcos Azules boat from Port de Sóller to Sa Calobra. It is not exclusive to any platform: there are three ways to do it.

1. On your own. Train + tram online (€32 on the discounted departures) and the boat direct from the operator (€35 return, 10% less on its website). About €64 in total, with the flexibility to choose your times. The only fixed rule: boats come back from Sa Calobra only at 13:45 and 16:40. All the details in our guide to the Sóller to Sa Calobra boat.

2. Direct package. The official train website links to tourmallorca.com, which sells the Round the island "A tu aire" (at your own pace): train, tram and boat to Sa Calobra (out at 13:00, back at 16:40) for €65 per adult (€55 residents), €33 for children aged 6 to 11 and free for under-5s. You can start at Son Sardina. The guided version, with hotel pick-up and return by coach over the Sa Calobra road, costs €78 (children €39).

3. On a platform. On GetYourGuide, the Train, tram and boat ticket costs from €65, rated 4.4 from 1,305 reviews. The price is the same as direct: decide on the cancellation terms.

Tips for the Sóller train

  • Go early or buy online. The 10:10 is the busiest train; with the online combined ticket your ticket and time are sorted.
  • The first-class carriage has sofas: ask at the ticket office if you want to travel in it.
  • Don't count on the last train. The 18:30 from Sóller is the last; if it fills up, bus 204 is your way out.
  • Park at Son Sardina if you are driving: it is free and you avoid central Palma.
  • Check whether it is running in winter. The line has closed for almost two months for maintenance (mid-December to early February), and it usually stops at some point between December and January, but the company does not announce dates far in advance. If you are travelling in winter, check trendesoller.com first.
  • Combine it with the boat only if you have the whole day: with the return from Sa Calobra at 16:40, getting back to Palma is tight. More boat options in the comparison and reviews of the operator in Barcos Azules.
